HARD COPY: Boys will be…boys?
As the keeper of an antiquated, dogmatic, and claustrophobic value system of gender and sexuality that continues to have sway over human behavior across the planet, the gender binary requires constant upkeep to stay powerful and relevant. The conflation of masculinity and hypersexuality has long been a favored assumption among both men and women, a way that the gender binary has remained relevant. Journalist Catriona Innes interrupts these unhealthy stereotypes by interviewing 30 young men in their 20s, whom she finds more insecure, more interested in healthy communication, and less sex-obsessed than common mythology holds. She finds behavioral bisexuality to be more common than acceptance of the label.
