In this MSNBC article Katelyn Burns describes the ongoing political manipulation of transgender individuals’ ability to serve in the U.S. military. Since the Supreme Court has recently decided to allow the transgender military service ban to take place, the Pentagon has claimed that it will move forward with discharging over 1,000 trans troops. Previous estimates by the Pentagon suggest that there are currently more than 4,000 transgender military service members! Burns describes the situation well: ”these people have passed every test they’ve faced along the way and built careers of service, only to see a president and his transphobic administration seize power and drive them out using noxious, bigoted language to do so.” You’d think that a president who loves the military so much would want all hands on deck to defend his “greatening” nation. How exactly military administrators are going to go about forcibly removing trans service members from their positions remains to be seen, but it’s doubtful the process will be smooth.
